Operations Engineer II/Senior

ALLETE Clean Energy (ACE) specializes in developing, acquiring and managing clean and renewable energy projects. This position is located at the ACE corporate headquarters in Duluth, MN and is responsible for providing technical support to ACE's field operations teams. ACE's wind site portfolio expands across the country, and moderate travel to each wind site will be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and provide support for technical projects focused at increasing reliability of Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) and energy collection systems, and reducing operations & maintenance costs. Assess Continuous-Process-Improvement practices to improve scheduled maintenance and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Provide monthly site performance analysis and evaluation including, but not limited to: energy production by turbine (power curve performance), fault type trends, wind resource assessment, and part consumption trends.
  • Develop and prepare various reports, including but limited to: wind site operating reports, NERC compliance reports, and insurance claim reports.
  • Develop and implement reliability-centered practices and inspection procedures for WTG major components (gearboxes, generators, & blades).

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical or other power generation-related area.
    • Power option for electrical and mechanical engineering graduates preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • For Level II:  Over four years of related engineering experience; OR two years of related engineering experience plus certification as an Engineer-in-Training.
    • A master's degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.​
    • Professional Engineer license desirable, and may be required dependent on position responsibility
  • ​For Level Senior:  Over eight years of related engineering experience​.​
    • A master's degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.​
    • Professional Engineer license is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • 20% travel required.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather, climb ladders without assistance, and work heights in excess of 150 feet from the ground surface.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
