Library Technician, Mailroom & Special Projects

POSITION SUMMARY:  

This position’s responsibilities include assisting with the daily mail operation for Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, HTML’s associated uptown campus libraries, and other University departments housed in HTML. Processes supply orders for the Technical Services Division. Is responsible for working with federal and state government documents. Assists with special catalog clean-up projects as assigned by the Head of Cataloging & Metadata. Provides backup for the Courier run between HTML, offsite, and Matas and makes delivers and pick-ups as assigned. Drives the Library’s golf cart and van and follows all University guidelines for operating these vehicles.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma/equivalent and 6 years of directly related work experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
1. Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written
2. Ability to work under deadline and be self-motivated
3. Ability to take direction and to work independently
4. Ability to use good judgment while handling problems
5. Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment; ability to work effectively with a variety of people
6. Ability to discuss tasks with supervisor; ability to seek assistance with difficult situations; ability to follow through with tasks
7. Ability to perform work with small print or online screen displays and work for extended periods of time at a computer
8. Ability to pay close attention to detail
9. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stoop down, and push loaded book trucks
10. Ability to meet Core Technology Competencies for Howard-Tilton Memorial Library Employees
11. Ability to carry and use a mobile phone in the course and scope of job duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs), U.S. driver’s license and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to be authorized as a driver.
