About the internship program

PPG is looking for sharp, ambitious, and passionate students to join the Information Technology Internship Program. The intern program provides a challenging full-time work experience where the intern will take on important tasks and become an integral part of a PPG IT team. The program also includes many networking and social opportunities with senior leaders and intern peers. Our goal is to provide the intern with exposure to various career opportunities within IT while leading projects that are critical to a function or business unit. 

 

Job description

Software development interns at PPG work as application developers on a Business or Shared Services team within the information technology organization. 

 

A software developer intern contributes to a variety of IT related projects and participates in all phases of the software development lifecycle. The intern will be assigned to a business unit or function where he or she will build knowledge of the business needs and learn how to address those needs with effective IT solutions. This typically involves working on a team, engaging with end-users/customers in order to understand business processes, interpreting business requirements, and designing and developing technical solutions. Software developers are expected to investigate and troubleshoot defects and complex technical problems. Arrival at an effective solution often requires strong analytical and technical skills and the use of problem-solving techniques. 

 

Software development interns will be given the opportunity to learn or increase their knowledge of software development tools, programming standards, database technologies, and system design techniques and best practices. On-the-job activities may include: coding business logic, debugging programs, scripting database queries, executing solutions to move data, preparing documentation, and testing and implementing solutions.

You must have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • An interest in solving problems using technology

 

Preferred requirements:

  • Completed coursework or prior experience in the following areas:
  • Object-Oriented Programming
  • Relational Database Management

 

Additional requirements:

  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
  •
