Executive Director of Women's Initiatives - Job ID: 340871

The DOC is seeking an Executive Director of Women's Initiatives. Under direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Adult Programming and Community Relationships, and with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision making, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Department's women's initiatives and other long-term initiatives, serving as the point of contact for the Department externally and internally on these topics. The incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to;

• Stay abreast of all agency notices and updates as well as upcoming changes in regulatory rules that effect incarcerated women's issues;

• Maintain relationships with all major stakeholders;

• Supervise Counselors to assure their day-to-day activities align with the DOC’s Women's Initiatives;

• Manage the upgrade and implementation of appropriate system of policies, internal controls, data collection and procedures;

• Develop, evaluate and refine performance indicators;

• Provide analysis and recommendations for proactive strategies as required;

• Serve as a liaison in various meetings with Federal, State, City government, nonprofit;

• Coordinate compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends;

• Conducting meetings and presentations to disseminate information to Deputy Commissioner and executive staff;

• Perform related duties as necessary.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Qualification Requirements

 

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and four years of full-time experience in corrections, social work, psychology, law, public administration, law enforcement, or a related field providing direct services to an inmate or detention population within a correctional or related facility, at least one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity; or

 

2.   six (6) years of full-time experience as described above; or

 

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Service as an inmate in correctional or related facility may be substituted for a portion of the required experience up to a maximum of two years on a year for year basis. A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, psychology, law, criminal justice or public administration which includes a field placement performing duties as described above, may be substituted for up to one year of full-time experience as described in "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.

 

Preferred Skills

 

• Experience working in the criminal justice field;

• Ability to work under intense pressure and meet restrictive deadlines;

• Knowledge of all federal, state and city policies and trends regarding women's issues in corrections;

• Masters Degree in related fields is a plus.
